I view this mothballing of the mythos of 'movie love' as part of the transformation from the conditions where faith could still be judged a virtue (especially in the context of marriage) to the prevailing conditions where faith is deemed radically insufficient for any purpose: we must be certain of everything (even if that certainty comes at the cost of truth).
