This is a fascinating commentary, David. I view this mothballing of the mythos of 'movie love' as part of the transformation from the conditions where faith could still be judged a virtue (especially in the context of marriage) to the prevailing conditions where faith is deemed radically insufficient for any purpose: we must be certain of everything (even if that certainty comes at the cost of truth).

It's a lovely article, and I really enjoyed reading it.

It describes our age of hedonism very well. Except that love is eternal, and Diney can do whatever he wants, but he can't turn all the brains of young men and women upside down.

I'm an incorrigible optimist!
