You may have discovered that Substack now has a means of generating images through AI for you to use to decorate your posts. I had a little fun earlier today entering the names of various politicians and historical figures into the prompter - the results are, let’s say, somewhat mixed. The programme can do a decentish Donald Trump:
Here, on the other hand is Kamala Harris - perhaps the AI is mistaking her for Kamala Haurais, whoever that is:
And this is supposed to be…(checks notes)…Margaret Thatcher:
While this, somewhat implausibly, is King Charles III:
I’m unsure whether the AI’s failure to generate actual likenesses is in fact a failure, or just the result of ‘ethical’ restrictions preventing it from producing them. But, in any case, I thought it might be fun to run the first ever News from Uncibal Christmas Quiz based on this amusing quirk of the program.
The rules are simple. Below I will post ten images. Each is a current UK Member of Parliament, as conceived by Substack’s AI - all I did was put the name of the person into the prompt, with no qualifications or additions. You just have to identify them, 1-10. The answers can be found in a footnote at the bottom of the post - so don’t scroll all the way to the bottom if you don’t want spoilers. No prizes (though you can treat yourself to an ASDA whisky and fig mince pie if you get them all correct).
Anyway, without further ado, go ahead and identify this rogue’s gallery of MPs:

Good luck, and merry Christmas!1
Answers: 1 - Keir Starmer, 2 - David Lammy, 3 - Angela Rayner, 4 - Kemi Badenoch, 5 - Jeremy Corbyn, 6 - Nigel Farage, 7 - Ed Davey, 8 - Rachel Reeves, 9 - Jeremy Hunt, 10 - Rishi Sunak
Wow
Rachel Reeves looks more human in the AI version than in real life!
In some ways, we need artificial intelligence because there sure as hell there isn't much evidence of the real stuff in the real world.
Aside from this, I personally dealt with omne related issues to do with this today with a few assignments (I am a teacher). The "AI Detector" was totally useless; the more topics had been discussed, the more the probability it will be picked up by "AI".
It is a vicious downward circle. Anyone who thinks that AI is the new revolution needs their head testing. All it can ever do is to regurgitate current thinking. Real intelligence, which we don't bother teaching anymore, would easily see this.
